Bob: try cycling the key, every time the car is turned on and off the in-tank lift pump should turn on for 30 seconds or so. Three 30 second cycles should purge all air out of the system!

Great write up. Used it on my 06 Jetta yesterday. After change out, I started engine with no problem, but it still died after about 15 second. It took about a minute of hard cranking to get it going again. After that everything was great.

The lift pump on the BRM puts out about 50-100 ml per key stroke. It only runs for a second or so. Cycling the key twice pretty much ensures you still have a fair amount of air in the filter. Cycle it at least 10 times to avoid issues.

On my 2010 Jetta, (CJAA) the lift pump does not cycle with the key. I suspect that it does not on do so on the 2009 (CBEA) either. I have to use VCDS to do a test to fill the canister.

1. I have not attempted this on my 05 Passat.
2. The replacement filter I have is a complete unit.
3. The written directions I have involve pinching lines, removing / replacing the unit and reconnecting the lines.
4. Is there as good a photographic replacement sequence for my application?
